Max Joosten joined the Unequal Democracies project as a PhD candidate in October 2018.  His PhD thesis explored the consequences of budgetary constraints on government responsiveness to the preferences of different social groups.  Max defended his thesis in September, 2023, and subsequently started as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Amsterdam.
