Matias López is a postdoctoral researcher at the Albert Hirschman Centre on Democracy in the Graduate Institute of Geneva (IHEID) and affiliated with Unequal Democracies. He earned his Ph.D. in Political Science from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2019), and was also a postdoc shared between Uppsala and Lund in Sweden, as well as a Fellow at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University. His research addresses democratic survival in contexts of high inequality, how distribution is shaped by elites' reaction to the externalities of inequality, the politics of agrarian reform, and the relationship between corruption and economic preferences. He is currently engaged in a project comparing elite attitudes towards redistribution and democracy in Brazil and South Africa. Publications by Matias López can be found in recent editions of Socio-Economic Review, American Behavioral Scientist, and PS Political Science & Politics.
